The Best Things In Life Take Hard Work

The Best Things In Life Take Hard Work

This past week I learned that, if I want something badly enough, I have to work for it. I’ve had the dream of making my own blog for some time now. A site owned by me, where I could post all my tips and tools for getting, and staying, sober. That dream came true this week.

This dream didn’t come easily though. It took a lot of hard work, beating my head against the wall many times, and a few moments of wanting to give up the fight. But, I persevered, and was rewarded with a beautiful site, that’s all my own.

Sobriety is like that too. When I first got sober, I wanted to be better NOW! I wanted immediate results. I didn’t want to wait until my head cleared. I didn’t want to dig up my past mistakes, and wrongs that others did to me. I didn’t want to face the fear and hardships that I had been running away from for so long. Unfortunately, sobriety does not bring instant gratification. I didn’t get sober on day one, and then live happily ever after. It took hard work, searching and fearless inventory of myself, and facing demons that I thought were locked away in a dark closet in my mind.

If I want to stay sober today, I must continue digging up old regrets, character defects that no longer serve me, and keep my side of the street clean at all times. In other words, I must continue working for what I want so badly, which is sobriety. Every day, through the good times and bad. I must continue to work.

If you are struggling right now in your sobriety, remember, it’s going to take some work. You’re going to have to face some uncomfortable things from your past. Some scary, painful things. But, I promise you will be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams with sobriety. One day at a time, you can do it.
